Ask Out, Get Booed Out: Brady's Homecoming Was Ottawa's Best Night in Years
Ninety seconds of boos, a 5-1 final, and one bear asking who handed the man the steering wheel.

Let me start with the take, because that's what you came for: if you ask your way out of town, you don't get a tribute video. You get exactly what Ottawa gave Brady on Wednesday night. And I loved every second of it.
Ninety seconds, to be exact. That's how long the building booed his tribute video, per the Ottawa Citizen. Ninety straight seconds. I've seen goalies get pulled faster than that. That's not a crowd, folks. That's a choir with a grudge.
The receipts. Wednesday, October 21. Brady, who asked Ottawa for a trade and was sent to Florida on June 21, came back in a Panthers sweater. A sellout crowd of 17,010 was waiting. Jerseys hit the ice. The chant of the night? “We don't need you.”
Then Brady scored first. Of course he did. Sports is a comedian too. And then Ottawa scored the next five. Final: Senators 5, Panthers 1. The fans said “we don't need you,” and the scoreboard said “yeah, agreed.”
Now the part nobody's yelling about. I played goal. When the puck goes in, everybody looks at the last guy who touched it. A goalie learns to rewind the play. So rewind it.
Brady had a no-move clause. Nobody snuck that into his contract at midnight. Management handed it to him. Then GM Steve Staios said the trade process “was clearly pointed to one team.” Well, yeah. You gave the man the steering wheel, and you're surprised he picked the destination?
Here's my rule, and I'll say it slowly for the guys upstairs: ask out, and your trade protection should go out the door with you. Ask for a trade, lose the clause. Simple. In my own mind, I am hilarious, but I'm not kidding about this one.
And the parting gift from the front office? Staios, in the Senators release: “We now possess cap space and draft capital.” Folks, that's not a plan. That's a receipt. I've gotten warmer goodbyes from a parking meter.
One more thing, and it isn't a joke. Ottawa's goalie Linus Ullmark left the game hurt after stopping a Brady shot. As a goalie guy, that one stings. Hope he's back soon.
Bottom line. The fans earned their night. Brady earned his boos. And Ottawa's front office earned a long look in the mirror. If this were a Bruins thing, Marchand would've been chirping Brady from the bench all night (hypothetical; he didn't play in this one). That's a rat move, and I would have loved every part of it.
This is Moose, from the den. Stay hungry. Stay black and gold.
Nothing changes. The humans keep fighting about it. We take notes.
