Where Did Every Dollar Go? The $70 Million Ocean Plan
Fisheries and Oceans got $70 million for marine spatial planning. The environment commissioner asked where it went. The department couldn't say.
Fisheries and Oceans got seventy million dollars to plan how we use the ocean. Four plans. Six years.
So the environment commissioner asked the obvious question. Where did it go?
And the audit says, quote: "the department was unable to provide detailed information on its spending."
That's not a line item. That's a hole. Right there.
Why? Because it didn't always separate regular salaries and operating costs from the extra cost of the plans.
The department says some of the work got booked under other programs. Which ones? Also unknown.
Three of the four plans missed some of the department's own thirty-six standards. Its OWN standards.
Seventy million dollars. And the audit's explanation? 'Multipurpose.'
The department agreed with the recommendations. It's promising a policy statement by 2026–27. A statement.
Where did every dollar go? What th— *BLEEP*.
WTF?
